Children compete for 'Olympic' gold

22/08/2008 11:34:00 AM
GREEN and gold smothered the arena at the Upper Hunter Family Day Care Mini Olympic Games this week as the youngsters of Muswellbrook competed for gold.

Excitement filled the air as the 10 children participated in everything from discus and shot put events to a swimming race, running and crawling and ball throwing events for the babies.

The week of fun events was organised and provided by Muswellbrook Family Day Carers Shelley Lockhart and Allana Klepzig with the support of Upper Hunter Family Day Care Child Development Officer Michelle Miller.

Each child dressed in the spirit with green and gold bandannas and commenced the event with an opening ceremony and athletes march with Olympic torches.

“We tried to carry it out like the official Olympics, it was a lot of fun,” Ms Lockhart said.

Winners and all place getters received their very own home-made medals and each child received a trophy at the completion of the games.

The event proved successful as the children had fun and parents were impressed by the activity.

“The parents responded very positively, which is nice to see,” Ms Miller said.
