MUSWELLBROOK District Health Service has rated highly in the 2007 NSW Health Patient Survey.

The results of the survey released last week revealed the Hunter New England Health Area (HNEHA) Service scored the highest rating for overall patient care.

Muswellbrook hospital was specifically noted for excellence in their outpatients services receiving advocacy ratings significantly above the state average.

Hunter New England Health communications officer Kylie Dawson said participants reported they would definitely recommend the service to their family and friends.

Being the first state wide survey, it was responded to well with 12,522 patients across the area, producing pleasing results.

Ninety per cent of patients rated their care as good, very good or excellent which is higher than any other Area Health Service and above the state average.

Member for Maitland Frank Terenzini said the HNEAH service provides health care for a population of more than 840,000 people and this result is a wonderful reflection of the high quality of health care available right across the region.

“The real heroes are the hard working health staff in our hospitals and health facilities who were praised for their courtesy and caring approach towards patients and carers,” he said.

The survey results will be used by the Area Health Service to continue improving all aspects of health services to the community.
